1. What kinds of events do you have at the church?
The most requested events are weddings but we've also had requests for neighborhood association meetings, memorial services, poetry readings, music, book signings, seminars, bible study, dance recitals and any number of things. We are open to any event that is a respectful use of the church and we have a special soft spot for music.

2. How many does the church seat?
The main sanctuary seats between 85-90. We have plenty of overflow seating in the room that adjoins the sanctuary but right around 100 guests is probably the best fit. We can do more but it gets very 'cozy'.

3. How much does it cost to rent the church?
Prices start at $395 for two hours (very small weddings). A standard 3-hour wedding is $495 and a 4-hour rental is $695. Private and corporate events are $75 per hour, non-profits and neighborhood associations are $25 per hour. If you would like to rent the church for full day, call us and ask about the rates.

4. Do you have dressing rooms?
We have an awesome private area upstairs that has a lounge, 2 private dressing rooms, a full bathroom with a shower and a small kitchenette area with a refrigerator. Both dressing rooms have a beautiful view of the valley.

5. Do you have a reception area?
We have two options here at the church. In the sanctuary, we do have very small 'cake and punch' reception area. If you want to hold a full reception, our sister facility is right down the street. The Skyline Grange is a large hall with a stage and a kitchen. It's a great old building on three acres with lots of room. You can take a tour at the same time you tour the church and packages are available. There are also several places very close to the church. Click here to see our page of reception locations.

6. Do you have a minister there or can I bring my own minister?
We are a non-denominational chapel so you are welcome to bring your own minister. If you don't have anyone, we know lots of very qualified, nice ministers that perform weddings so we would be glad to find someone.

7. Does the rental include rehearsal time?
Rehearsals are included in our 4 hour and 6 hour rental prices. If you are renting for less than 4 hours, you can add a 1 hour rehearsal for $75 on weekday evenings.

8. Do you have a private area or green room for presenters and musicians to prepare before a performance?
The lounge and dressing room area upstairs serves as a comfortable, private area for anyone preparing for a performance, speaking engagement or class. The church is also equipped with high speed wireless internet access.

9. Can I come and see the inside?
Sure. Tours are done by appointment on Thursdays at 6PM and Sundays at 3PM. If you would like to sign up to take a tour, just give us a call or drop us an email requesting one of those times. (If those times don't work for you, we can arrange a different time)

11. What if I want something different than the time slots you have, can I do something different?
For enough money, you can do whatever you like. Just kidding. Seriously, if we don't have a high demand for the date that you are looking at, we can adjust the time slots. However, it's tougher to do on popular dates.

12. What else can you guys do, can you coordinate my wedding?
Being a wedding coordinator is a really hard job and we don't do anything like that. If you need help planning your wedding, we can refer you to an experienced wedding planner. Here is what we can do: Provide a beautiful chapel, suggest ministers, give you a list of good reception locations and arrange for musicians. (We are actually really good at finding musicians, we know lots of them) Unless your wedding is very small, working with a good wedding planner can save you time, money and a lot of stress.

13. How much does it cost for a minister?
Somewhere between $200 - $300, depending on the minister.

14. How much does it cost for musicians?
It depends on what kind of music you want and how many songs. To hire a piano player to play at your ceremony, it costs approximately $175 - $400. To hire a vocalist to sing at your wedding costs between $100 - $250. Guitar players and harpists are also really cool for a ceremony. If you are looking for a full band for your reception, that can be anywhere from $1,200 - $5,000 depending on the band and the length of time you would like them to play. It's very hard to give prices because every musical act is different. Pricing can depend on things like time of day, distance and the popularity of the performers.

16. You don't have our date open, do you have other suggestions for small, historic chapels?
If Brooks Hill won't work out for you, there are several wonderful, small chapels to try:
Oaks Pioneer Church - Slightly smaller than Brooks Hill but also a little less expensive, it's a very beautiful, popular little chapel. The website is: www.oakspioneerchurch.org (503) 233-1497. The Old Church is a stunning old church in downtown Portland, we hear good things about them, reasonable prices. Their website is: www.oldchurch.org (503) 222-2031. Canby Pioneer Chapel - If you want to stay out on the east side of the Portland area, we hear that this is a very pretty little historic chapel www.canbyweddingchapel.com (503) 263-6126. There is also a small chapel in Boring, Bell Tower Chapel, that looks really nice. The website is www.belltowerchapel.com - Phone number (503) 658-3015. Good Luck!

17. There are some places for weddings that are churches but they don't have congregations, can you explain that?
Sure. It's worth knowing that there is a difference between 'working' churches, which are churches that have active congregations and historic church buildings that are no longer used for religous purposes. Many buildings that were formally churches can no longer support a congregation but are worth saving for their beauty or historic value. They can be owned by either private individuals, a government entity or a non-profit organization. These types of 'churches' for rent make money on events and/or weddings to preserve these beautiful old buildings. Generally that also means that they do not have a religous affiliation or a minister on the premises. Brooks Hill, The Old Church, Oaks Pioneer, the Canby Pioneer Chapel and the Bell Tower Chapel are examples of this type of venue.
